Oxidation Removal & Restoration in Largo, FL

Gelcoat is restored using professional compounding agents and rotating polishing machines. These tools gently remove the thin layer of dead, oxidized material that forms on fiberglass after prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Oxidation leaves a dull white residue that hides the hull's original color. After removing this damaged layer, technicians polish the surface with a finer compound to restore clarity and reflection. The result is a smooth, glossy finish that much more closely resembles the boat's original factory appearance.

The Finger Examination

If you run your hand over the hull and notice a white, powdery residue transfer onto your skin, the gelcoat has most likely begun to oxidize.

A Professional's Advice

Wax cannot properly adhere to an oxidized surface. If the chalky layer is not removed first, any wax applied later will appear streaky and wash off quickly.
